Great Excitement AND a Free E-book!
Hello from Chilly Canada! Only kidding, no snow yet but I don't know where summer has gone! Got up this morning and it was only eleven degrees outside ... I am currently wearing jeans and a fleece lined hoodie for goodness sake and I'm still COLD! But, enough whining from me! Today I am totally over the top excited! After almost two weeks of non exciting trips to nowhere I decided to take a chance and do the twenty-six kilometer ride to town and take The Boy with me. Truth be told I was starting for feel that he was suffering just a tiny bit from cabin fever having not left our yard/lane for walking and sniffing in all that time. His enthusiasm for playing any of our Training Academy games was low, in fact last night he wanted nothing to do with us at all and seemed to be sulking. So, after our normal stroll along the lane this morning I loaded up the car and invited him to hop into his crate. On the center console I had a plastic dish full of very high value treats, hot dog, cheese, corned beef, all chopped into small pieces which I could easily get at and feed through the bars of the crate when he was calm and sitting down.
I am thrilled to say that he made the whole twenty-six kilometers without whining! For about 50% of the time his butt was on the floor also - cheddar cheese for that! We had a lovely walk around town and then down to the lake. Lots of sniffing, lots of loose leash walking. It was really good to do the walk through town instead of driving right to the lake ... seems we had forgotten about sitting at the curb before crossing! By the time we made our way back to the parking lot at the mall though he seemed to have regained his memory of that! Back in the van we had another very quiet journey home AND he laid down!!!!! Yes! For about two kilometers he actually laid down as well as keeping quiet! Oh be still my beating heart!
For anyone visiting us today who doesn't already know about Absolute Dogs Training Academy all I can say is, "Where have you been?" These guys R.O.C.K. and right now they are feeling so very, very generous they are giving away an e-book about boundary games! So worth taking a look at this ... it's not just about getting your pup to go to bed! It's all about getting them to love their bed, it's about calm, it's about self control and it is so easy to achieve because Tom & Lauren make it such fun! If you have stopped by via the Facebook group Canine Enrichment these games will provide you with another tool to keep your puppy's brain muscle working! If you already belong to T.A. ... well, then I'm guilty of trying to teach an old dog new tricks! *Groan*
Last week I made a treat dispenser from a plastic bottle and Mr Lucky Dog has finally worked out how to get the treats out of the plastic bottle! So now I am going to make an activity center similar to another post I found on The Canine Enrichment Group .... hopefully will be posting another tutorial very soon!
