What's New This Week?
Fishing, Lucky Style! |
So, two weeks in and Lucky is fairly solid with middle now indoors, on the deck and on the 'training area' I set up on the grass. Off the property on a leashed walk he doesn't seem to be so keen ... it's like he is frightened to tie me up with the leash, but that's ok cos I figure we probably won't need to do it on leash. Funder is getting better and better, as is Wanger and Whip It. Our only hang up with Whip It is that as soon as he gets the rabbit he brings it to me and puts it in my hand lol! Must remember to ask about that one cos I'm sure he's supposed to trot around like a pony in a ring with it. Boundary Games are awesome!
We have found over the course of this first two weeks of ditching the bowl that there are times when, for what ever reason, we simply haven't played enough to earn our full rations for the day. Our solution was to have the 'leftovers' in the bowl at the end of the day. This hasn't happened too much and probably will happen even less when the new snuffle mat arrives! YAY!
Also noticed that the raised bed had nylon/plastic feet and moved a little on the wood floor and the deck when we started to get a little less sloth-like. L.D. HATES anything moving under his feet and started to shy away from his new boundary. So today I bought four rubber cups to go over the legs ...the bed not Lucky's! Now no slippy slidey boundary, Lucky back to being confident getting on and off.
Had an amazing weekend with Lucky staying close by on our beach whilst mom and dad mended the dock, cleaned the beach up and generally did stuff! He kept busy with some scatter feeding on the grass, and a spot of fishing! Not once did he abscond into the neighbors' yard - RESULT! As for confidence ... there was a point when our neighbor's dogs were swimming back and forth to their platform in the lake and Lucky got so brave on seeing them enjoy themselves he came out a bit further, still not swimming but looking more confident for sure.
So what's the plan this week? Pretty much to continue playing games and building our relationship, generally having fun and trying new stuff. Sort of figuring that right now we're just going to focus on the journey rather than a specific outcome ... any new skill or raised level of confidence is just the icing on the cake!
